Portuguese wines got 605 prizes and 10 regional trophies in the Decanter World Wine Awards last edition.
Portuguese wines achieved 20 gold medals, 117 silver medals, 264 bronze medals and 204 wines got the “Commended” mention. To these prizes, the jury also added 10 regional trophies that are specific to Portuguese wines, like Port or Madeira wine prizes. These regional trophies are to wines that get the highest score gathered by the challenge jury. The wines were reviewed by 219 wine experts from 27 countries (Portugal included) in London during past April. These awards also use price as a factor to review wines (under and ouver £15). A total of 9,873 wines were awarded a Decanter medal, but winners of the highest accolade, the 32 International Trophies, will only be announced on 4 September.
