Three Portuguese wines were distinguished with "Best in Show" medals in the awards of Decanter magazine, one of the reference publications in the area of wines.
The wines Soalheiro Primeiras Vinhas Alvarinho 2019 and Henriques & Henriques, 20 Year Old Verdelho were awarded in the "Best in Show" category. Gandarada Dão 2019 won "Value Best in Show" and about it the DWWA 2021 judges commented "this wine has sensational value for Dão fans - although those who are not yet familiar with this granite area of Northern Portugal should know that its pleasures are as severe as they are playful."
In total Portugal collected 489 medals including 13 Platinum, 32 Gold, 203 Silver and 238 Bronze. Europe was the most awarded continent and Portugal came in 4th place in the table. In the Decanter awards, the wines are judged through blind tasting by a panel of over 170 specialists. This year there were 18,094 wines in the competition from 56 countries.
