The total exports of Portuguese wine experienced significant growth in the first six months of 2024, with an increase of 1.25% in value and 8.58% in volume compared to the same period of the previous year. In the first semester of 2024, a total of €452.4 million in value and 171.5 million liters in volume were recorded, with an average price of €2.64 per liter.
Despite the significant increase in volume, this was not accompanied by a proportional growth in value. This imbalance results from a 6.52% decrease in the average price, reflecting the pressure of stocks in the global wine sector.
Regarding export markets, the leading countries in terms of value (Euros) are France (€53.4 million), followed by the United States of America (€50.1 million), and Brazil (€38.9 million). In terms of volume (liters), France remains the leader (17.5 million liters), with Spain in second place (16.4 million liters) and Angola in third (15.3 million liters).
“In the first semester of this year, we witnessed exponential growth in the volume of our exports. This growth is particularly relevant at a time when the wine sector is facing excess stock in cellars. The 8.58% increase in volume demonstrates the strong demand for our wines in international markets, contributing to the sector's sustainability. We continue to face a challenge regarding the average price, which decreased instead of increasing, as we had expected. Nevertheless, the figures continue to highlight the competitiveness, resilience, and quality of Portuguese wine on the global stage. We remain committed to promoting our wines and finding solutions that maximize their value in international markets,” emphasized Frederico Falcão, ViniPortugal's CEO.
