The 2021 edition of the Vinhos de Portugal Competition, an initiative promoted by ViniPortugal, will take place from the 17th to the 21st of May. Initially scheduled for the end of April, the event was rescheduled motivated by the restrictions related to the Covid-19 pandemic. In this way, we seek to create the best conditions for national and international judges to participate and choose, for the 8th consecutive year, the best national wines. Registration remains open. Producers who register by March 26th will benefit from a discount of five euros for each reference registered, an exclusive advantage during this period, which will not be applied in the next two phases of registration. Registration can be done on the website http://concursovinhosdeportugal.pt until April 30th. In addition to assessing the quality of Portuguese wines, from North to South of the country, a position of a panel of renowned national and international judges, the Wines of Portugal Contest is an initiative with a promotional character among specialists, sommeliers and market influencers strategic externalities for the "Wines of Portugal" brand, which, over the course of a week, have the opportunity to get to know the reality of the wine industry better. The first phase of the Wines of Portugal Competition will take place from May 17th to 19th, at CNEMA, in Santarém, in which the registered wines will be taken by a jury, composed of specialists in Portuguese and international wines, including journalists, sommeliers, wine educators and other professions linked to the sector. Setúbal is the host district for the final phase of the Contest. The Grand Jury, made up of national and international experts of recognized merit in the sector, will meet on the 20th and 21st of May for the selection of the Big Diamonds and the Best of the Year. The big winners will be known at the Award Ceremony, on May 21st. In 2019, 1,382 wines went to the competition and collected 423 medals, of which 29 in the Grande Ouro category, 98 Gold and 296 Silver. The Wines of Portugal Contest is an initiative of ViniPortugal that aims to be a meeting point and exchange of experiences between producers and specialists from around the world, reaffirming a commitment to the national production of quality wine in order to assert themselves as products of excellence export markets.
