The competition is an initiative of ViniPortugal that will distinguish, for the eighth consecutive year, the excellence of Portuguese wines. Registration can be made on the website http://concursovinhosdeportugal.pt and the deadline is 23 April. In 2020, ViniPortugal will once again invest in a panel of renowned national and international judges, reinforcing the promotional character that this initiative has been assuming over the last years with specialists, sommeliers and influencers of strategic external markets for the Wines of Portugal brand. The first phase of the Wines of Portugal Challenge will be held from May 11 to 13, at CNEMA, in Santarém, where the registered wines will be evaluated by a jury, composed of specialists in Portuguese and international wines, including journalists, sommeliers, wine educators and other professions related to the sector. After this phase, the Grand Jury will meet from the 14th to 15th of May, for the selection of the Grand Gold Medals and the Best of the Year. The big winners will be revealed during the Award Ceremony, on the 15th of May, whose location will be announced soon. In 2019, 1382 wines were submitted in the competition. Among them, 423 were distinguished with medals: 29 Grand Gold, 98 Gold and 296 Silver. The Wines of Portugal Challenge is an initiative of ViniPortugal that aims to be a meeting point and exchange of experiences between producers and specialists from all over the world, reaffirming the commitment to the national production of quality wine in order to assert themselves as products of excellence in export markets.
