Portuguese wines stand out at the Decanter World Wine Awards 2019

Portuguese fortified wines won 6 "Platinum - Best in Show" medals at the Decanter Asia Wine Awards, one of the most important wine competitions in Asia.
Portugal has achieved a great result in the last edition of the Decanter World Wine Awards. The competition awarded 4 fortified wines and 2 still wines from Portugal with the "Platinum - Best in Show" medal, the best distinction of the competition. The winners of the Platinum medal are five Port wines and two Madeira wines with ratings above 97 points. Apart from that, the Portuguese wines won 21 gold medals and 135 silver medals. France won the most Best in Show medals (13) followed by Spain and then Portugal and Australia tied in third place with 6 medals in this category. The Decanter World Wines Awards (DWWA) is an international competition promoted by the English reference magazine, Decanter. About 17000 wines were blind tasted by 280 of the best palates in the world. By the end, they had awarded 50 Best in Show medals, 148 Platinum medals, 480 Gold medals, 4,164 Silver medals, and 7,376 Bronze medals.
