The 34th edition of the International Wine Challenge distinguished 558 Portuguese wines with 76 Gold medals, 206 Silver medals and 271 Bronze medals. Among the 76 wines awarded with Gold medals, 15 have received Trophies, the most the highest distinction of the competition. Douro and Porto was the most awarded wine region with a total of 330 medals, including 25 Gold medals and 16 Trophies. Portugal had an outstanding year at the 2017 International Wine Challenge (IWC), picking up a whopping 553 medals. With a mighty haul of 76 Gold medals, the country finished in the top three of the Gold medal chart, being beaten only by France and Australia. The IWC is divided into two different tasting moments. The wines of Tranche 1 were tasted in November and the wines of Tranche 2 in April. The Trophies result of the wine tasting of the wines awarded with Gold medals in both Tranches.
