Portugal achieved 17 Gold medals, 33 Silver medals and 21 Bronze medals in 2016 Sommelier Wine Awards. Among the 117 medals attributed to the Portuguese wines, the wines Kopke Colheita1984 and Quinta do Vallado Touriga Nacional 2013, from Douro wine region, were distinguished with the “Critics’ Choice” medals. Douro wine region achieved another award in By the Glass category with the wine Quinta do Crasto, Late Bottled Vintage from 2011 harvest. The Sommelier Wine Awards is Britain's only on-trade wine competition, it focuses entirely on wines aimed at the on-trade. Since it started in 2007 it has grown to become the first point of reference for the UK's on-trade wine buyers as well as the key competition for wines trying to increase their presence in hotels, pubs, bars and restaurants.
