The 3rd edition of Sakura Japan Women’s Wine Awards attributed 66 medals to the Portuguese wines
The Wines of Portugal totaled 66 medals in Sakura Japan Women’s Wine Awards competition, almost the double when compared to last year. The Sakura Japan Women's Wine Awards, the largest wine competition in Japan, is an international wine challenge whose panel of judges is composed exclusively of female wine experts (sommeliers, chefs, wine journalists and trade). Portugal achieved 8 Double Gold medals, 33 Gold medals and 25 Silver medals. The Diamond Trophy is the highest distinction of the competition. The wines that collect this election are selected among Double Gold wines. The Portuguese wines awarded with Diamond Trophies are: - Alfrocheiro red 2010, Quinta de Lemos, Beira Interior - Quinta do Bom Retiro 20 Years, Ramos Pinto, Douro - Madeira Medium Sweet , Vinhos Barbeito, Madeira - Espinhosos white 2014, A&D Wine, Minho In the third edition of this competition participated 3543 wines, from 35 countries around the world and only 1498 were awarded. The rigorous and numerous jury panel, composed by 380 female judges, has selected the wines during a blind tasting, in five days from January 30th to February. The competition Sakura Japan Women's Wine Awards had collaboration with Foodex Japan, the largest fair of food and wine in the country. Portuguese wines awarded with Double Gold medals: - Alfrocheiro red 2010, Quinta de Lemos, Beira Interior - Tinta Roriz red, 2010, Quinta de Lemos, Beira Interior - Bulas Porto Vintage 2011, Bulas, Douro - Bastardo red 2014, Conceito, Douro - Quinta do Bom Retiro 20 Years, Ramos Pinto, Douro - Madeira Medium Sweet, Vinhos Barbeito, Madeira - Espinhosos white 2014, A&D Wine, Minho - Dom Diogo Padeiro rosé 2015, Quinta da Raza, Minho Check out the full list of winners here.
