Wines of Portugal stand out in Mundus Vini 2016

Portugal increased its international recognition and achieved 258 medals in 2016 Spring Edition of Mundus Vini, the most important competition in Germany
A total of 258 Portuguese wines were awarded in the 18th edition of the prestigious contest Mundus Vini. Portugal has accomplished 9 Grand Gold medals - the highest distinction of the competition – with two winning regions: Douro wine region totaled 6 with 5 fortified wines and 1 still wine whereas Alentejo wine region won 3 with still wines. In addition to the Grand Gold medals, Portugal achieved 144 Gold medals and 105 Silver medals in the competition that brought together more than 5,000 wines. The Old World wines were the big winners of this edition. Italy was the most awarded country (496 medals), followed by Spain (469 medals) and Portugal (258 medals). Mundus Vini was founded 15 years ago by Meininger Verlag publishing house and has become one of the world's most significant wine competitions. This year 5,00 wines from 149 wine growing regions were tasted and judged by an international jury of 160 wine experts from all over the world.
