Five Wines of Portugal were distinguished by the special edition that celebrates 40 years of Decanter
Decanter Magazine, for its special edition of November that celebrates 40 years of the magazine, had challenged 40 wine critics, including staff and contributors to pick “their favourite wine of 2015”. In this selection, Portugal totaled 5 outstanding wines ahead of Spain, New Zealand, South Africa, Chile and Argentina. Portuguese wines picked by Decanter’s contributors: Michael Broadbent : Berry Bros & Rudd, produced by Noval, 20 Year Old Tawny Port. Andrew Jefford : “Quinta do Vale Meão 2012”, Douro. Ch’ng Poh Tiong: Quinta do Noval 2004, Douro. Richard Mayson: Ribeiro Real Boal, Lote 1, 20 anos, Barbeito, Madeira. Sarah Ahmed: Quinta dos Carvalhais, Branco Especial, Dão. Jorge Monteiro, ViniPortugal CEO, says that “be included with 5 wines on this list of 40 wines published by Decanter confirms that even in a high competitive market like United Kingdom, Portuguese wines have been increasing awareness among the wine critics, and it’s important that this acknowledgment reaches the consumer, task for all the stakeholders and mainly a big challenge for ViniPortugal”.
