Strong support during the thematic tastings about the Northern wines from Portugal, in collaboration with the Tourism of Porto and North of Portugal
The Northern wines from Portugal were the protagonists of the thematic events organized by ViniPortugal, in partnership with the Tourism of Porto and North of Portugal. The purpose was to raise knowledge about the Portuguese wines at FITUR in Madrid, not only to the Spanish public as well as the fair visitors. This initiative brings together the winners of 2014 Wines of Portugal Competition, distinguished with silver, gold and grand gold. In 2014, Spain was the highest source of tourists to Porto and North of Portugal, and that’s why it’s expected an increase of the Portugal’s promotion during 2015 in more 10 trade fairs. The tastings were performed at the Tourism of Porto and North of Portugal stand at FITUR, which welcomed more than 225,000 visitors. The main purpose was to divulge the best that the North of Portugal has to offer, particularly in terms of Food and Wine. The starting point is that national wines are strongly associated with Portuguese gastronomy and this harmonization is one of the most remembered experiences by those who visit us, so that in 2014 "Try the food" was considered the most practiced activity by 62, 8 % of tourists. During the event were tasted more than 300 wines and gastronomic products in Portugal stand and were performed 35 live cookings and cookings and 40 commented wine tasting. Jorge Monteiro, ViniPortugal CEO, points out that "this attendance is part of a partnership with the Tourism of Porto and North of Portugal and is an excellent opportunity to promote a tourist destination and one of its most iconic products, wine. The presence at FITUR proved the great enthusiasm of the Spaniards by our wines and gastronomic products and the interest that they demonstrate to learn more about Portugal."
