Brazilians are invited to discover the Portuguese wine diversity in the event “Wines of Portugal in Rio”. The event was organized by newspapers “O Globo” from Brazil and “Público” from Portugal with ViniPortugal support. During three days, 408 wines from 62 Portuguese winegrowers will be available to Brazilian consumers willing to discover Portuguese wines produced from indigenous grape varieties. The event includes 22 sessions, seminars, lectures and wine tastings lead by wine critics from “O Globo” and “Público” newspaper, such as Manuel Carvalho, Pedro Garcias, Rui Falcão and Bruno Agostini, and wine professionals like Dirceu Vianna Jr, the only South American and Portuguese speaker Master of Wine, and Guilherme Rodrigues, Port wine specialist. Attendees will also have the opportunity to join wine and sweets pairing sessions lead by Luiz Horta and Luciana Fróes and participate in a lecture about “female gaze” in wine with three Portuguese winegrowers and Bruno Agostini. Jorge Monteiro, CEO of ViniPortugal, says “this is an unique moment, because Brazilian consumers will have the opportunity to learn more about Portuguese wine s and their diversity. Brazilian culture it’s starting to adopt wine more often, but consumers are curious and willing to learning and exploring the wine flavors. Brazil is one of the main export markets for Portuguese wines and still with high potential. We expect to strengthen Portuguese wine share of 12.5% and the fourth position among the main wine suppliers. Location could not have been better as it’s relevant to improve Portuguese wine presence in Rio de Janeiro, the main state of export, where 29% of wine sold is from Portugal”.
