The quality of Portuguese wine has been recognized in two important international wine challenges: the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles and the International Wine Challenge.
Portugal obtained two global awards at Concours Mondial de Bruxelles, one for Best White Wine (Vinho Verde Quinta da Herdade Escolha 2013) and the other for Best Sweet (Porto Cruz 1985, from Gran Cruz Porto). In addition to these prizes, Portugal achieved 325 medals: 16 Grand Gold Medals, 113 gold and 196 silver. This year, only France won more Grand Gold Medals than Portugal (18). In the grand ranking, Portugal was in the third place, behind France and Spain. The Concours Mondial de Bruxelles returned to its home base of Brussels to celebrate the 20th anniversary with a record number of 8750 wine and spirit samples. In the International Wine Challenge, Portugal achieved 603 medals, including 55 gold medals, 204 silver and 344 bronze. Portugal was the third country with more gold medals (France and Australia were in first and second place, respectively).
