The 50 great Portuguese wines selected by Joshua Greene, wine critic and specialist, will be revealed next Thursday at New York Public Library. Joshua Greene has chosen a fabulous line up of 50 Great Portuguese Wines after tasted more than 600 Portuguese wines from several wine regions. Joshua Greene highlights “Portuguese wines always pleased me, because they are so distinct compared to wines from others countries, that’s like Portugal had a microcosm” that allows him have “a whole world of wines in one single country”. “Portugal is different thanks to the multiple indigenous grave varieties that nobody else has”. He also believes that “Portuguese wines have a great success in the U.S.” and says that “there are opportunities to Portuguese producers in the U.S.” but advises them to “select an area to work, because the country is huge”. Jorge Monteiro, ViniPortugal CEO, affirms “USA is now wine's biggest market and still has several opportunities for Portuguese wines. Like the last year, ViniPortugal assigns the largest budget for U.S.. “Portuguese wine enchanted wine critics and opinion leaders. An effort achieved very successfully but that needs to be strengthened. It’s extremely important that Portuguese wine entities and winemakers get engaged to promote Portuguese wine in the U.S. market”, reaffirms the ViniPortugal CEO. Program The 50 great Portuguese wines selected by Joshua Greene event will be divided in 3 distinct moments: first a lunch for 150 people from 12pm to 2pm; then a wine tasting exclusive for trade and media from 2.30pm to 5pm and finally from 6pm to 9pm a wine tasting for consumers. The lunch will also feature the Wines of Portugal awards - Importer of the Year, Retailer of the Year and Restaurant of the Year – to distinguish those that best promoted Wines Portugal in the last year.
