The "Wine Advocate" evaluates Portuguese wines and 102 wines scored above 90 points

As usual, every December Portuguese wines are evaluated by Mark Squires, Robert Parker’s collaborator. The results, published in the last “The Wine Advocate” issue are the outcome of his visit to Portugal in July and of the samples sent to him by producers.
Amongst all wines tasted, 102 were given more than 90 points and, within these, three obtained 96 points, four were given 95 points and six obtained 94 points. 308 wines were evaluated and, amongst these, 102 have obtained scores of 90 points and above. Highlights on the three wines that equalled the best score ever obtained by Portuguese still wines in Robert Parker’s evaluations (96 points), awarded to just one wine, the Quinta do Crasto Maria Teresa 2003. These three wines are two from Alentejo and one from Douro: Quinta Do Zambujeiro Red 2007, Quinta Do Mouro Gold Label Red 2007 and Quinta Vale D. Maria Red 2009, respectively. With 95 points there are four wines: two red wines from Dão - Álvaro Castro Red (Quinta da Pellada) 2008 and Quinta da Pellada Carrocel Red 2008; one from Alentejo, Quinta do Mouro Gold Label Red 2005 and one from Península de Setúbal, the Moscatel de Setúbal Superior 2000 from Casa Ermelinda de Freitas. With 94 points, there are three wines from Douro, two from Alentejo and also one from Dão: Quinta do Vale Meão Red 2009; Quinta Vale D. Maria Red; Poeira Red 2009; Quinta Do Zambujeiro Red 2009; Quinta Do Mouro Red 2007; and Álvaro Castro Primus Red (Quinta Da Pellada) 2009. Still, in the category of wines with 90 points and above, another 12 wines obtained 93 points, thirteen had 92 points, sixteen had 91 points and 48 wines obtained 90 points. Of these 102 wines, 55 (54%) are from Douro and 20 from Alentejo (20%), but it should be pointed out that within this category of wines with 90 points and above, there are also wines from Dão (9), wines from the Vinhos Verdes region (7), wines from the Lisbon region (4), wines from Beiras region (3), two wines from the Tejo region and two wines from the Península de Setúbal region. Worth mentioning are the 27 white wines with 90 points and above and, especially, the Moscatel de Setúbal 2000 from Casa Ermelinda de Freitas that obtained 95 points. With scores between 80 and 90 points there were still around 200 wines, 42 of these with 89 points. Wine Future November 7th to 9th 2023

The 4th edition of Wine Future, which will take place between the 7th and 9th of November this year, will be held at the Convento de São Francisco in Coimbra. This 2023 edition is being co-organised by Wines of Portugal and Chrand Events. "Breaking Barriers" will be the theme of this, the largest meeting dedicated to wine held in Portugal, presenting participants with some of the most influential and respected names in the world of wine, but also with illustrious personalities from other sectors and even voices from competing industries.
