The best Muscat in the world is Portuguese

The world's best Muscat wine is Portuguese, according to the French competition "Muscats du Monde." Among the 210 Muscat wines tasted, the Setúbal Muscat Reserve 2006 from the wine producer Venâncio Lima was considered the best wine in competition.
The contest top 10 also includes one more wine from Venâncio Lima and the Douro Muscat 10 years produced by Adega Cooperativa de Favaios. This wine producer also received a gold medal for the Favaios Reserve 2004. Setúbal Muscat 2007 from wine producer José Maria da Fonseca and Setúbal Muscat Roxo 2008 from Sociedade Vinícola de Palmela received a silver medal. Setúbal Muscat 2007 from wine producer José Maria da Fonseca and Setúbal Muscat Roxo 2008 from Sociedade Vinícola de Palmela received silver medals. The 55 elements of the jury tasted all the wines without information about brand, country or producer. In 210 wines tasted, 24 received a gold medal and 25 a silver medal. Besides Portugal, also France, Spain, Brazil and South Africa were awarded. The international competition "Muscats du Monde" takes place in Montpellier, France and evaluates wines only from the grape variety Muscat (Moscatel).
