After revealing that the Vintage Quinta do seixo (Sandeman) 2017 accomplished the 1st place of the Top 100 "Cellar Selections 2019" with 100 points, the Wine Enthusiast magazine divulged the full list. Among them, are seven Portuguese wines.
Seven Portuguese wines were selected for the Top 100 "Cellar Selections 2019" and put Portugal in 4th place with more wines on the list, just behind France, USA and Italy. This distinction creates a buzz about Portuguese wine especially in consumers and opinion makers. Of the Portuguese wines featured on the list four are Port wines and three are still wines (two from Douro and one from Alentejo). “Stashing away bottles for later is not common practice for every wine lover. However, in some cases, popping open a special bottle of well-aged wine can be much more transcendent than enjoying it young. Beyond the fact that aged bottles can show immense depth, complexity and balance, we can’t forget about wine’s ability to transport you to a certain time and place.” This is precisely the case of the Vintage Quinta do seixo (Sandeman) 2017, which won the 1st place on the Top 100 and has “the structure to live on for decade”. According to Roger Voss of Wine Enthusiast magazine you have to wait 10 years until it’s perfect to enjoy but ensures “this is going to be a major, impressive wine. All the elements are there: ripe blackberry fruit, powerful acidity, dense tannins and spice. ” The port wine Taylor Fladgate 2017 Vargellas Vinhas Velhas also stood out with 100 points on 13th position. Only eight wines from the iconic Bordeaux, Champagne and Douro Valley regions reached the highest score (100 points) in this year's Top Cellar Selections. The Portuguese wines on the Top 100 "Cellar Selections 2019” are: #1 Port Vintage Quinta do seixo (Sandeman) 2017— 100 points #13 Taylor Fladgate 2017 Vargellas Vinhas Velhas Port — 100 points #36 Quinta do Vale Meão 2017 Port — 96 points #38 Quinta da Romaneira 2016 Reserva Red— 95 points #40 Monte da Ravasqueira 2015 Vinha das Romãs Red — 94 points #43 Cockburn's 2017 Port — 96 points #64 Quinta de la Rosa 2016 La Rosa Reserva Red— 94 points
