The best wines of the year will be known next Friday, May 10. The Terminal de Cruzeiros do Porto de Leixões will open the doors to receive the Wines of Portugal Challenge of 2019, promoted by ViniPortugal. The session will be attended by Bernardo Gouvêa, Institute of Vine and Wine (IVV) CEO, and Jorge Monteiro, ViniPortugal CEO. During the session will be distributed Gold and “Best of the Year” medals which will distinguish the best wines 2019, selected from the 1,382 wines submitted in this year's edition. The winners were chosen after a first evaluation phase which consists in a blind tasting at the CNEMA in Santarém. The final selection is led by the Grand Jury of the competition: Dirceu Vianna Júnior (MW) from the United Kingdom; Evan Goldstein (MS), USA; Thomas Vaterlaus, Switzerland; Bento Amaral and Luís Lopes, president of the Wines of Portugal Challenge, who will be present at this session. During the Gala will also be known the winners of the first edition of the "Personalities of the Year" Award, that will distinguish international personalities who have contributed to the recognition of Portuguese wines in the American, African, Asian and European continents .
