Portuguese fortified wines stand out at the Decanter World Wine Awards 2018

Portuguese fortified wines won 6 "Platinum - Best in Show" medals at the Decanter Asia Wine Awards, one of the most important wine competitions in Asia.
Portugal have achieved a great result in the last edition of the Decanter World Wine Awards. The competition awarded six fortified wines from Portugal with the "Platinum - Best in Show" medal, the best distinction of the competition. Blandy's, Sercial Vintage, Madeira, 1968 and Justino's, 50 Years Old Terrantez were rated with 98 points. Apart from that, the Portuguese wines won 12 Platinum medals, 23 gold medals and 149 silver medals. Among the Platinum winners, ten are fortified and two still wines, all rated with 97 points. France won the most Best in Show medals (12) followed by Portugal and Italy tied in second place with 6 medals in this category. The Decanter World Wines Awards (DWWA) is an international competition promoted by the English reference magazine, Decanter. About 16900 wines were blind tasted by 275 of the best palates in the world. By the end, they had awarded 50 Best in Show medals, 149 Platinum medals, 439 Gold medals, 3,454 Silver medals, and 7,079 Bronze medals.
