Portugal achieved 5 Gold medals, 18 Silver medals and 17 Bronze medals in 2017 Sommelier Wine Awards. Among the 61 medals attributed to the Portuguese wines, the wine vinho Ferreira, 10 Year Old White Port, NV, from Douro wine region, was distinguished with the “Critics’ Choice” medal and the Caspar Auchterlonie Award for the competition’s top fortified wine. The Sommelier Wine Awards is Britain's only on-trade wine competition, it focuses entirely on wines aimed at the on-trade. Since it started in 2007 it has grown to become the first point of reference for the UK's on-trade wine buyers as well as the key competition for wines trying to increase their presence in hotels, pubs, bars and restaurants.
