Wines of Portugal Challenge ceremony awarded 258 of the 1007 wines in competition.
Wines of Portugal Challenge showed more than a thousand wines to international wine critics and that was a good initiative at the right time – that’s the ViniPortugal conclusion that organized the event. The winners were announced yesterday, 7th June, at Pátio da Galé in Lisboa. 919 table wines and 88 fortified wines competed for medals. The 258 medals - 125 from Bronze, 81 from Silver, 36 from Gold and 16 Great Gold - awarded several wines, especially from Alentejo, Douro, Lisboa and Dão. There were also the medals to 2013 Best Fortified wine and 2013 Best Wine. The best wine of 2013 was Vale das Areias Syrah 2010 from wine producer Vale das Areias Syrah 2010 and the best fortified wine was Duorum Vintage 2011. “It was an exciting challenge that involved ViniPortugal efforts and shows us what we’ll need to change in the next edition, which will take place between 12th and 16th May, 2014, at CNEMA, Santarém. The award ceremony will be held on 6th June, in location that will be announced”, affirms Jorge Monteiro, ViniPortugal CEO. “We showed an image of strong quality and consistency of Portuguese wine. This was undoubtedly one of the objectives achieved, alongside the record number of wines in competition and the positive involvement of international experts”, adds the ViniPortugal CEO.
