258 medals highlight quality of Portuguese Wines

Wines of Portugal Challenge ceremony award will be held at Pátio da Galé in Lisbon next Friday, 7th June, at 7:30pm.
The Wines of Portugal Challenge will honor Portuguese wine in the ceremony award that will be held next Friday, 7th June, at 7.30pm in Pátio da Galé, Lisbon. The challenge received 1007 wines, a record number, and now 258 medals will reward the winners. Wines from all Portuguese wine regions were in competition: Alentejo (188 wines), Bairrada (57), Dão (64), Douro and Porto (273), Lisboa (85), Setúbal (73), Vinhos Verdes (101) and Tejo (77). Also, 88 fortified wines, like Porto, Madeira and Muscats were in competition. In the award ceremony 125 wines will receive bronze medals, 81 wines will be awarded with silver medals, 36 wines will win the gold medal and 16 wines the Great Gold Medal. There will be also a prize to the best fortified wine and best wine in competition. The Wines of Portugal Challenge is an excellent showcase of the best wines made in Portugal, but is mainly a unique moment, since there were so many Portuguese wines in competition to be reviewed by a great number of international opinion makers. This confirms the excellent moment that Portuguese wines are passing through. It’s also important to mention that the great jury unanimously considered that all 52 wines presented for Great Gold Medal competition had excellent quality.
