Guimarães, capital of culture, hosts wine competition

The prestigious "Concours Mondial de Bruxelles" wine competition will be held in the northern Portuguese city of Guimarães between 4 and 6 May. Guimarães is also one of Europes two Capitals of Culture this year. Hundreds of wineries, wine critics and wine lovers will attend the event.
Several wineries from different countries will be running for the prizes: best wine in its category, silver medal, gold medal and great gold medal. Concours director Thomas Costenoble described competing wines from the Guimarães region as "modern" and destined to please palates world-wide for its "fresh and vivacious character and low alcohol content". In the latest edition of "Concours Mondial de Bruxelles", Portugal participated with about 650 wines and got 235 medals.
