By setting up informative plates in strategic areas and buildings of the city, it aims to provide tourism agents and tourists with new tools and new ways to explore the city of Porto and its close ties with wine.
The Urban Wine Route stands as an innovative suggestion that will allow tourists to discover how the money generated by trade and collections of taxes and rates on wine could influence and help develop the city’s defensive structures, water supply system, construction of new roads, as well as defining its identity and its inhabitants way of life. It is, also, a way to connect the city’s particularities with wine tourism and the wine regions that surround it, fitting it into an urban scheme. It also shows how intimately the city of Porto and its history is connected to the rural wine regions of the Douro and Vinhos Verdes. For more information see: http://www.visitporto.travel
